Extensive Legal Background

Mr. Elkus began his legal career with the Greely Public Defender’s Office. While at the Public Defender’s Office, Mr. Elkus tried numerous criminal jury trials which provided him the groundwork in developing and honing his litigation skills.

After working in the Public Defender system, Mr. Elkus was admitted to the prestigious L.L.M. program in Law and Government from the Washington College of Law. While receiving his L.L.M., Mr. Elkus received a federal externship with the Honorable Reggie B. Walton of the United States District Court of the District of Columbia.

After spending a year in Washington, D.C. and working with Judge Walton, Mr. Elkus moved back to Denver, Colorado and started a career in private practice. As a Denver attorney, Mr. Elkus has litigated over 100 cases ranging in various matters including complex security cases, breach of contract cases, personal injury claims and criminal matters.

Over the last several years, Mr. Elkus’ practices have further developed in representing clients in various complex federal litigation matters to include:

  • Violation of First Amendment Rights
  • Violation of the Fourteenth Amendment Due Process Clause
  • Violation of Title VII and Section 1981 (race discrimination cases)
  • Violation of the American with Disabilities Act
  • Other federal statutes

In fact, Mr. Elkus has recently been successful in litigating a multi-million dollar verdict in Federal District Court against the largest produce distribution company within the State of Colorado on grounds that the company violated an ex-employee Civil Rights, specifically, race discrimination.

Personal Background

Loving Colorado and being a big skier, Mr. Elkus moved from Cincinnati, Ohio to attend the University of Denver. After graduating from Denver, he went back to Ohio to attend law school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. During law school, Mr. Elkus worked in the criminal law clinic where he represented indigent clients that were charged criminally. Working in the clinic, he had the rare opportunity to be one of the only law students to be able to try his very first case. After that experience, Mr. Elkus knew that trial work was the only area of law he wanted to practice. Thus, in 2000 he moved back to Colorado and began his legal career.
